In 1959 approx: 559,000 mentally ill housed in State Mental Hospital's (NIC)

1970's Deinstitutionalize with the incentive of SSI or Social Security Disability

On June 26, 1975 The Supreme Court ruled in O'Connor Vs. Donaldson, State can not confine non-dangerous mentally ill to State Institutions.
